ACTIVATING HUMAN POTENTIAL

Look up and not down. Look forward and not back. Look out and not in, and lend a hand.

PROJECTS

This year we’ve focused primarily on the needs of children and made grants to several organizations working with at-risk youth:

Camp To Belong is an international nonprofit organization that reunites siblings from separate foster homes at six summer camps in the US and Canada.

Para Los Niños helps children in Acari, Peru learn to read and write by providing school uniforms, books and supplies essential for attendance.

Kimochi provides essential nutritional supplements to at-risk Native American youth in Colorado.

Tracks Trust provides an exceptional mentoring model for at-risk boys in New Zealand. Tracks is currently producing a film documentary of its landmark rites of passage work with boys.

Earlier this year, Shine also contributed funds to Enersol, a developer of sustainable energy solutions for rural Latin America, where 1 of every 3 human beings lives without electricity. Electric power is a major factor affecting childrens’ education, health, and standard of living.

Later this year Shine anticipates making additional grants to organizations working with at-risk youth. In 2005 Shine will begin to provide additional support for innovative organizations serving aging adults and underserved communities.
